How does our game fit the theme? Read here!
Thanks for playing the game! Read here for more information about our project, the process, and more!
FITTING THE JAM TYPE:
Spoilers ahead! Stop reading unless you're done playing or have completed the game. To fit the April Fools theme, we decided to take an unconventional approach. In game design, the way to win is centered around a certain objective, and the player's actions are all taken in order to progress to that given objective. What we did in Pigeon Pressed Pause was take the objective, and flip it all around. When the player reaches the end, they realize they were chasing a false goal; the real way to win was right underneath their eyes. So, that is how we are fitting the main theme of this April Fool's Jam - by tricking the player.
FITTING THE THEME (TIME):
When the jam began, the theme was time. This already aligned with our original vision for the game, as we wanted to make a mechanic where the game could pause and resume, hence stopping time. While this is the main way the theme is integrated, there are also some more subtle (and cheeky ways we added it. For example, in the final part of the level, there is a clock shop selling clocks. What do clocks do? Show you the time! Additionally, the player must reach the next checkpoint in a certain amount of time, or the game becomes unplayable due to the number of distractions and alterations.
We hoped you enjoyed playing!
